Choosing the right cladding metal is one of the highest-impact decisions in an insulation project's design, directly affecting lifecycle cost, energy performance, and long-term corrosion resistance. In the Gulf's combination of intense solar load and, in coastal areas, high salinity, the wrong choice can mean re-cladding within a few years rather than a couple of decades.
Premium aluminium cladding offers the highest solar reflectivity of the common options, at roughly 90–95%, making it the standard choice for district cooling piping, HVAC ductwork and urban pipelines where minimizing solar heat gain is the priority. It's also the most cost-effective option and easy to form into complex shapes, though its corrosion resistance is moderate and it is not recommended for continuous saline exposure.
SS 304 offers very high mechanical strength and good resistance to organic chemicals, making it well suited to food processing facilities and indoor steam lines where impact resistance and hygiene matter more than saline resistance.
SS 316 adds molybdenum to the alloy, giving it the highest resistance to chloride and saline environments of the three options. It's the standard specification for refineries, coastal plants, chemical storage tanks, and any marine or offshore application governed by SOLAS or IMCA requirements.
